Mental Slavery

December 18, 2007

I was editing my previous post where I added (slave to their own will). It clicked me that I should write something on this because some people have defined mental slavery in such a gross manner that they have led themselves astray along with many other beautiful people.

First of all I would like to inform everyone that I am not a philosopher nor an expert writer but just a person using too much common sense. What I do is I question everything and then I patiently seek for the answer rather then discussing with irrelevant people. I mean if I have to discuss medicine I will talk to a doctor. If I need to discuss religion I will consult a religious scholar. Most of the time we discuss sensitive things like beliefs and belief systems with people who are like us (stupid and unaware). We have all heard this one “You have met too many people like you.”

So I wanted to say that every human being is a slave. There are voices (thoughts) that cross our minds and we are constantly lightening to something. Either we pick it up and act upon it or either we let it pass by. These are whispers (both from the dark and light sides, talk about this thing some other time). So when we are in an environment we are influenced. We are learning, enjoying, getting bored or as such. Either we accept the environment or either we resist it and try to change it or leave it. Environment can be a book, an individual, a room (with or without people and/or paintings and/or others as such). Even when we are negating or resisting we are taking a stand on some choice we made earlier from a set of choices available from a series of environments. So we are continuously being influenced and we have a right to chose and accept what we want. Therefore we are free to choose slavery to any set of ideologies and concepts presented by the environments we encountered in our life. In most of the cases we can loosely cause a series of environments to happen to us. But the fact remains we are slaves and slaves of what we want.

The point that I wanted to make clear was that if we are to be slaves then why not something that we choose without any bias and tilt to pleasures. We should chose to be slaves of something higher than physical pleasures like food, sight seeing, TV, music, drugs and sex. Higher than any culture, ritual, traditions and background. Exactly what the Creator wanted for His creation. The truth is in the open and its waiting for those who are willing to take the pains to inculcate and get it into us from every physical and psychological angle.

I hope this is useful to the masses that come across this. Comments and criticism will help us all to handle the doses of reality.

I agree. Even those who think they are free from this ’slavery’ — or influence if you need a softer word — people who think they’re too smart to get carried away by the opinion and habits of those around them, are slaves to their own needs; needs which are defined by their environment.

    p.s. ‘creator’ –> ‘Creator’.

I don’t know what p.s. stands for but I made the change.

I deliberately used this word after reading some literature of the so called enlightened folks. They forget that they are influenced by a series of environments and that they need to take a universal peek at things rather that force their experiences into philosophical or religious texts.
